My friend is a smoker since he had 17 years old, he smokes like 20 cigarettes every day. he smokes because, it helps him in anxious moments daly. When he was overwhelmed because of work or any other problem, he smokes compulsive.  One day he tried to quit smoke, and he felt depressed and anxious all day long. He was angry and irritated. He realize about his problem when his girlfriend broke with him. After that, he change his strategy, he went to a support group, and he asked for help to a specialist, and he received therapy. Now, he is enhance to become in a better person, and deal with his problems in other ways.

The story talks about a 57 years old man, dead by headshot. Apparently, he had everything necessary to make him happy, he had a good job, a beautiful house, and all kind of things most people wants.That is the point when someone thinks about suicide, what had happen in his/her mind of some person to decide to do it.

The character starts to talk about his life, he lives in a routine, he does same things every days, all days, He eats at the same place and orders the same food, his life loose sense in some point. "During the last few years a strange change has been taking place within me. All the events of Life, which formerly had to me the glow of a beautiful sunset, are now fading away” he says. It is a example about how he feels about his life. After this, I could imagine the sorrow, loneliness, and monotony that he experiment to think to kill himself.

Another example is when the character says: “we are the eternal toys of foolish and charming illusions, which are always being renewed.” In this phrase, he talks about the fragility of happiness, and how things or moments or people who makes us happy in one second could not do it, this pursuit needs a continuous and unsatisfied end.

Maupassant use an analogy about how digestion works for people. he blames the bad digest process to bad things in life like nightmares and the desire for death. the connotation of how much digestions interfere in life is reflected when he says: “For good digestion is everything in life.” This make me think in old greece, when people believe about the origin of all kind of feelings are in the stomach, kidney and intestine. In some way, that could be truth, if we consider the mankind is a specie whom works around passion, anger and sadness. no matter how much, people said it are rationalism or conscious, in decisive moments we are pure feelings.

At the end, Mauppassant refers no matter how much people think about strong and powerful reasons to kill himself, always the truth is that we look our life, when is empty, without the things are really important, the desire of leave this world, overwhelm us.

"It is all over. I had gone back to the beginning, and suddenly I turned my glance on what remained to me of life. I saw hideous and lonely old age, and approaching infirmities, and everything over and gone. And nobody near me! "My revolver is here, on the table. I am loading it . . . . Never reread your old letters!" And that is how many men come to kill themselves; and we search in vain to discover some great sorrow in their lives,” he says.

[Scene: A television studio in Los Angeles, a desk in the middle with a office leather chair. Gabriel Rodriguez, the newscaster, is an ambitious young man who wants to be the most popular newscaster in L.A.

He is giving the news and everything is normal but there’s no much to say on thursday when suddenly he is noticed about a breaking news.]

Characters:

Gabriel Rodriguez: Famous newscaster

Ranjiv: International Correspondent

Floor Manager:  

Person: just somebody

John Gomez: the weatherman

Rambo: N.Y’s correspondent

Gabriel: -Good evening. I’m Gabriel Rodriguez and these are the news in L.A.!!- [news music sounds].

-Today president Obama was in San Francisco, where he offered a conference about “Obamacare”. He talked about many different issues that the country is facing. He emphasized medical care, immigration, and homeland security as a priority in his campaign-.

-Meanwhile candidate Mitt Romney asked for support of the republicans  in N.Y. , where he talked about the main ideas he has for decreasing taxes and generated an improvement of industry-.

-Next week both candidates will attend a debate in Connecticut-.

-In other news The Institute of Science and Technology of Boston is working in a new technology to improve solar panels devices in order to enhance motor’s performance-.

- And tomorrow, here in L.A. The Scenic Art Institute will realize the 43th street festival, where artist from all over the world are going to perform plays and multicultural concerts. This year the special guest will be Lady Gaga.

[Gabriel Rodriguez is receiving a breaking news from Barbados]  

Gabriel: - I’m receiving a special report from Barbados where Gandhi hurricane is seriously affecting many communities-

-Citizens of Barbados has suffering the hard consequences of Gandhi, several communities are isolated because  of many rivers are flooded and the only access to entering these communities is by air-.

-Ranjiv has been sent to cover the event. So, Ranjiv tell us about the situation in that city!

Ranjiv: Thank you Gabriel!! We are living a very tough situation here in Barbados, because the rivers are flooded and many roads were affected. Electrical service was suspended, we are running out of food and water. The authorities has made contact with others countries who want to help these communities.

[Ranjiv dropped the micro because of the wind and rain. They’re losing signal and the floor manager send back to the studio where Gabriel Rodriguez was using his cellphone].

Gabriel: We’re having some troubles with the transmission, we are trying to re-establish communication. We’ll back in a few minutes.

[commercials]

Gabriel:- Hey you! asshole! What the hell is going on? Somebody tell me what just happent?-

Floor Manager: -Sorry Gabriel! We have problems with the satellite signal.-

Gabriel: -Reeeeally, [sarcastic]. I didn’t notice.-

Floor Manager:- We didn’t expect this problem. You have to be always prepared for this kind of problems...-

Gabriel: -What? Are you telling me, how should i do my job?-

Floor Manager:- Sorry...I didn’t mean that...-

Gabriel:- Shut up! [super angry], Bring me a cup of coffee.

[The floor manager goes for Gabriel’s coffee, when he is back, he spill all coffee in Gabriel’s suit]

Gabriel: -What is your problem? Did you do it on purpose?-            

Floor Manager: -I’m so sorry! it was an accident...-

Gabriel: -Now, I have to clean this mess because of you.-

[Gabriel leave the room, when the phone starts ringing, because they have a breaking news]

Floor Manager: -We have a earthquake, we need to go on air, right now! The last thing we want is to lose rating.-

Person: -But, Gabriel is not here...-

Floor Manager:- We can’t wait, hey you! weatherman, we need you!

This is your opportunity. This just happens once in life.-

John: -I’m not prepared...-

Floor Manager: -Come on, boy! You can do it, We trust in you, don’t let me down!-

[John Gomez goes to the desk and prepares the news. The show is about to begin]

John: -Good evening L.A.! This is a special report we’ve received from N.Y. City, apparently an UFO is above Manhattan in this moment. Rambo, who is in Manhattan will give us details.

So, Rambo, tell us what is going there?-

Rambo: -Thank you! John!? We were ___________ at The Yankee Stadium, when suddenly were surprised by a huge object flying just above us, this is a historical moment.

John: -An UFO? Unbelievable Rambo!! But tell us, how are people reacting?-

Rambo: -We just don’t believe it. People are crying and screaming “This is the end of the world.”  

John: -I’m in shock Rambo!, I can’t believe what I am watching! Could you please tell us, are people being evacuated?

Rambo: -Yes, they are. The police is coordinating the evacuation and the army is about to arrive in the next hour.

John:- We’ve received a lot of calls from the audience they want to know if there are any emergency phone number, I mean, we know we can call 911, but because of this event is there a new number for emergencies?

What I want from this course?

All people expect a lot when starts new things. It could be to accomplish a goal like improve their foreign language skills, pass an exam or get a job. Those goals are important. It is the motivation to face new challenges. However, when you do the sort of stuff that implies get a kind of knowledge, we have a complete different perspective of things.

That is because when you are more concern for the profit from this knowledge than the learning process and all new things involve in that process, could be just a few things, but that few things make the difference.

So, the thing that I want from this course is learning. The goals and all objectives that we could have or want came soon or later. But only as a result of implement this new learning.
